When we visit businesses for our Best of the City Awards spotlights, we expect to discover something meaningful. A strong story. A unique offering. A clear sense of purpose.
But every once in a while, we step into a space where everything feels integrated, where the environment, the people, and the experience are all working in complete alignment.
Aumbase Sedona was one of those places.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was not a typical wellness studio. There was an intentional rhythm to everything, from the way the space was designed to the way each offering was described. It felt less like a schedule of classes and more like an invitation into something deeper.
Set against the backdrop of Sedona’s iconic red rock landscape, Aumbase does something few studios attempt, and even fewer execute well. It treats the land itself as part of the practice.
Inside, the studio is bright, grounded, and thoughtfully designed. Natural light fills the room. Hand-painted murals add texture and personality. Every detail feels considered, from the layout to the tools available for practice.
But what makes Aumbase truly distinct is that the experience does not stop at the studio doors.
Step outside, and the offering expands into Sedona itself.
Daily classes take place at the Airport Vortex, one of the most energetically recognized locations in the region. Small group sizes create an intimate setting, allowing each participant to feel guided rather than managed. The landscape is not just a backdrop. It becomes part of the work.
In that moment, it becomes clear. This is not about offering yoga in a beautiful place. It is about creating a practice that is inseparable from the environment around it.
At the center of Aumbase is Valerie Sanjali Irons, whose path to building this studio reflects the same depth and intentionality found in the business itself.
Her work in Sedona began long before Aumbase. In 2010, she founded Bhakti Tribe Sedona, creating community gatherings centered around kirtan, a devotional form of music rooted in ancient tradition. Over time, her work expanded into sound healing, breathwork, and energy-based practices through Sanjali Healing Arts.
By the time she took over Aumbase, the vision was already clear.
This was not about opening a studio. It was about creating a space where people could reconnect with what she describes as Source Energy, and explore their own creativity and healing in a grounded, accessible way.
What stood out most as we learned her story was that nothing about it felt calculated. Each step was the result of direct experience.
Her introduction to sound healing began with a single encounter, the Soundwave Bed, a device designed to immerse the body in vibrational frequencies. That experience sparked a deeper exploration into sound as a therapeutic tool, one that now shapes the foundation of Aumbase’s offerings.
It is this kind of origin that defines the studio. Not theory. Not trend. Experience.
As we explored what Aumbase offers, we began to understand how intentionally everything is structured.
The business is built around two distinct, yet connected, environments. The land and the studio.
On the land, the focus is expansive. Yoga hikes, meditation journeys, sound healing experiences, and guided ceremonies take place at Sedona’s most energetically significant sites. Each experience is designed to work with the natural environment, not simply exist within it.
Inside the studio, the focus becomes more internal.
Sound baths, breathwork sessions, and private therapeutic experiences create space for stillness, release, and recalibration. The Soundwave Bed anchors many of these sessions, offering a deeply immersive experience that goes beyond traditional relaxation.
What impressed us most is how seamlessly these two environments work together.
There is no disconnect between what happens outside and what happens inside. It is one continuous philosophy, expressed in different forms.
One of the most defining qualities of Aumbase is the consistency of its intention.
The outdoor experiences are not simplified versions of indoor classes. They are thoughtfully guided sessions led by practitioners who understand the energetic significance of each location.
The sound healing sessions are not passive or ambient. They are structured, purposeful, and rooted in training and experience.
Everything feels deliberate.
This level of care is not always easy to find in the wellness space, where experiences can sometimes feel diluted or overly commercialized. At Aumbase, there is a clear commitment to depth.
That commitment shows up in the way the team teaches, the way the sessions are designed, and the way guests describe their experiences.
What also stood out to us is how Aumbase continues to evolve beyond a single visit.
The studio offers a range of ongoing experiences, from recurring sound journeys to new program series focused on self-development and personal healing. The space itself is also shared with the community, hosting workshops, gatherings, and private events.
It is not just a place people visit once.
It is a place people return to, deepen their practice, and continue exploring.
Sedona is known for its wellness community. There is no shortage of yoga classes, healing sessions, or spiritual experiences available.
What makes Aumbase different is how cohesively it brings those elements together.
This is not a collection of services. It is a unified experience, built on years of practice, guided by a clear philosophy, and delivered with consistency.
Valerie Sanjali Irons has not simply built a studio in Sedona. She has contributed to the culture that draws people here in the first place.
And Aumbase represents the most complete expression of that work.
As we left Aumbase, what stayed with us was not just what we saw, but what we felt.
There is a sense of alignment in this space. Between the land, the practice, and the people guiding it.
It is the kind of place that invites you to slow down, to reconnect, and to experience something with intention.
For those visiting Sedona, and even for those who live here, Aumbase offers something that goes beyond a typical class or session.
It offers an experience that stays with you.
